The design of the central media library is inscribed within a strong site and urban context. Through the articulation of the Gambetta Square on one side and the Aude riverfront on the other, the media library positions itself as a central element, linking the different components of its context through a building rich in meaning.
The continuity of the Aude riverfront is ensured by the three angles of the three distinct volumes. Their presence maintains the parallel with the river and integrates the media library into the alignment of trees to the north of the plot, at the junction with Boulevard Paul Sabatier.
Beyond this frontality, the division of the programmed mass into three articulated volumes opens the media library widely toward the landscape. It is no longer merely facing the Aude but unfolds toward the surrounding environment as a whole—toward the city to the east and the future park to the west. Thus, the project, at once front-facing toward the Aude yet resolutely oriented toward the fortified city, harmoniously engages with its context in a calm and balanced manner.
The volumetric approach also allows the preservation of views from the residences north of the plot and ensures strong visual openings toward the future park.
The site layout plan, informed by numerous factors (solar shading, prevailing winds, etc.), creates microcosms of open-ground spaces as well as multiple climate-refuge areas. The placement of the building thus becomes the generator of a high-quality garden space.
