The new police station in Montereale rises from the wounds left by the earthquakes of 2016-2017, a gesture of rebirth and resilience. It stands in the heart of the hinterland as a silent outpost, a spatial mark that welcomes, guides, and tells a story to those who enter this place.
The mass, raw and powerful, unfolds into complex façades clad in anodized metal, warm as the local stone. Its plan and elevation originate from the organic fabric of Montereale’s stone villages, weaving a continuous dialogue between history and contemporaneity, between memory and design.
The inclined surfaces and cut façades generate perspectives and visual relationships, near and far, where the majestic profiles of the Central Apennines emerge on the horizon. Public space is shaped in the new square, enclosed by the silent front, while the building rises from the sloping ground, folding and adapting to the rhythm of planes and sequences through which it is perceived.
It is an architecture that breathes with the landscape, that dialogues with time, that speaks of memory, community, and resilience. A gesture that invites one to pause, to look far, to feel the echo of history between the folds of stone and metal.
